I am a HUGE fan of 3M hooks and furniture slides! It is amazing to be able to hang stuff just about anywhere without damaging the items you are hanging. It almost rivals the ability to arrange furniture throughout my entire house without any help!
If you have not been introduced to these two items, you are in for a treat. But if you know and have forgotten about their great qualities, maybe you will pick up a new trick or two.
These versatile hooks and picture hangers are FANTASTIC for temporary holiday decorations. We use them to hang Christmas lights, wreaths, stockings, and signs. Beyond the holiday season, these hooks can be used for really just about anything! For example, we also use them for cord containment, coat hooks, holding backpacks, hanging necklaces, holding aprons, etc.
How to use 3M Command Hooks is a resource that does a fantastic job of explaining how to use them, giving additional options of where they might be useful, and suggesting different types of hooks for specific purposes.
I really enjoy the fact that you can purchase the sticky refill part for the hooks and use them time and again. Some of them are really pretty and decorative, while others are more about function vs. form. This versatility allows you to keep your options open.
I would love to hear where you found them useful so we can share those ideas with others as well!
Man do I wish I would have invented these! When I was a kid, my bedroom had linoleum flooring. I would take washcloths and place them under any furniture I had so I could move the furniture around easily. When I got older and had carpeted areas, moving furniture around was not as easy nor fun until I found these!
I am a very visual person, and because of that, I like to be able to see what the furniture looks and feels like in a specific location. I used to get all sorts of grief from my family when I wanted something moved from one place to another, until I purchased a few sets of furniture slides a few years ago. Now I can place the furniture slides under several pieces of furniture and then move them around to my liking.
This avoids the cycle of:
1) moving one piece of furniture,
2) lifting the piece of furniture,
3) grabbing the slides out from the piece that you just moved, and
4) putting them under the one you want to move.
In short, it’s a pain in the butt and a lot of back and forth. Having multiple sets takes away from that back and forth and creates ease and efficiency when arranging the room.
They now make furniture slides for hard surfaces and carpet, so make sure you purchase the ones you need. Also as a caution – if you are moving furniture on a hard surface, make sure you sweep or swiffer before you move anything so that small rocks and such do not scratch the floor.
I have some sets permanently placed under some pieces of EXTREMELY heavy furniture, like our entertainment center. I keep the slides under this piece of furniture because of the many cords and electronics. Sometimes the cords get tangled, and with the furniture slides placed underneath, I am able to slide it out and deal with it all by myself.
I also use them to make room for our Christmas tree. Let’s face it, unless we put the tree in the middle of the room, something has to move!
Check out the furniture slides on Amazon! Amazon has a large selection available to review and decide. I have also been able to purchase them for under $6 for two sets at a local discount hardware store. Either way you will be happy that you have them the next time you need to move a piece of furniture.
