Can one small task make a difference? YES! And here is how.
My youngest son was in Sea Scouts, where they learn all sorts of amazing things including navigation, and how precise you must be. You see if you miss, change, or alter your course by 1°, after a mile, you’ll be off by 92.2 feet! One degree can make a BIG difference!
Decluttering and paper organization is a lot like that – starting with one small change can lead to more small changes, and soon you are on your way to the home you want and deserve!
A great place to start is with all the junk mail that comes into the home. There are a few websites you can go to where you can remove yourself from solicitation lists, and doing this will start steering the ship back on course. Although it does not take effect immediately, you will start seeing a significant increase shortly after doing it, but more importantly you will start to feel a difference.
You see, when you take action (no matter how small it seems), it shifts your thinking and actions. Now all of a sudden you are in charge, you are making the decisions, you are taking those proactive steps, and you are steering the ship!
Click here to download the Home Office and Paperwork Tips PDF, which includes the Solicitation Removal PDF that I created that will guide you to the five websites to go to to get off junk mailing lists. Having them all collected in one place allows you to methodically go through the list and feel a sense of accomplishment once it is done. I will warn you, however, once you do this, you will find that you get annoyed with solicitors that are not honoring the “Do Not Solicit” request. All of a sudden they will not seem as credible or they will feel more predatory.
Do you want more support in your organization journey? It only took a pandemic to push me towards the online Paper Organizing Support and Accountability Group Classes and Group Virtual Organizing Classes that I had been talking about creating forever! These classes are always taught live, and you get all my prior experience rolled into an hour each week – my 10 years of banking experience, 12 years of being a resourceful stay-at-home mom, and the thousands of hours working in my clients’ homes as a Certified Professional Organizer. In short, that means you get all my life and business experience, knowledge, and training, brought to you online.
Let’s see where you are at now on your paper decluttering journey:
✅ Step 1: Recognizing that you have a problem, that it is getting in the way of your best life, and that you are ready to change some things to make things a different way. Way to go! (P.S. It doesn’t matter how much paper clutter you have, you’ve still completed step one!)
✅ Step 2: You have determined you are ready for change and are committed to taking action towards that change (by completing the Solicitation Removal PDF). Woo Hoo!
✅ Step 3: You acknowledge that it is going to take work (time to complete the online request) and time (for it to process). (No genie in a bottle here)
✅ Step 4: You have found a good cheerleader and support and accountability person (if you need it)! (Yup me!) Through my online courses and support and accountability group classes, I can help you stay positive, encouraged and realistic on your organization journey.
